The Last of Us Season 2 Unveils New Footage of Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey & Catherine O'Hara

On Nov. 11, Max debuted a teaser trailer for the upcoming titles that will come on the platform in 2025. The streaming service offered a sneak peek at several new series, including the new Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Stephen King's It prequel series, It: Welcome to Derry. At the same time, it featured sneak peeks at new seasons from returning series like The White Lotus Season 3, And Just Like That Season 3, and The Last of Us Season 2.

The ten-second series doesn't spoil much of what's to come but it does hint at the relationship between Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey), as well as gave a further sneak peek at Catherine O'Hara's newcomer character. Following Season 1, the hit series will feature a five-year time jump, and the short teaser shows Joel dealing with the choices he made to save Ellie's life in Season 1's finale.

The ten-second shot gives a better look at O'Hara, who plays a therapist. "You wanna start, or what? You can't heal something unless you're brave enough to say it out loud." The teaser also shows Joel playing guitar, which is a key detail from the series, but also more encounters with zombies.

Although the teaser doesn't indicate a release date, since the teaser arrives close to the clip's ending at the 1:34 mark hints The Last of Us Season 2 might come in the second part of 2025. The Last of Us previously released another teaser trailer in late September, accompanied by a series of posters introducing newcomer Kaitlyn Denver, who will play Abby.

The Last of Us Will Feature Several Newcomers

The official logline for Season 2, which is based on The Last of Us Part II, reads, "After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind."

Many familiar faces from Season 1 will return for the second installment alongside Pascal and Ramsey, including Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. At the same time, Season 2 will also include several newcomers, alongside Denver and O'Hara. Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon.

The Last of Us Season 2 will be shorter than Season 1, and will have only seven episodes, instead of nine like the first season. However, the show's co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann teased that, if HBO renews The Last of Us for Season 3, it will be "significantly larger" (via Deadline). At the same time, they teased that "the story might require Season 4."
