A few weeks ago Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett very publicly asked the Browns for a trade to a contending team. Since then the Detroit Lions have been the place that everyone and their mothers have been placing him.
It's always felt like quite the longshot to begin with since the Browns both don't want to trade him and financially it would be very hard for them to trade him.
We talked with NFL Insider Tom Pelissero at the 2025 NFL Combine on Tuesday and he really drove home that the Browns don't have any plans to move him.
"The Browns have not shown any interest so far in even calling people back about a trade."
While Pelissero believes that could evolve over time, he says both parties are dug in on what they want to do right now, and there's a real cat's cradle happening at the moment.
Speaking of that, Browns GM Andrew Berry got up in front of media on Tuesday and once again reiterated that the Browns have no interest in the move.
"Our stance really has not changed. We can’t imagine a situation where not having Myles as a part of this organization is best for the Browns.”
Meanwhile on the podium right next to Berry, Brad Holmes was talking about the difficulties of bringing on another top-end pass rusher to a team that is in the "planning stages" of giving out a big extension to one as we speak.
“Those guys are hard to acquire, and it’s hard to keep them, financially. Again, we have one that’s due for an extension and we’ve already kind of gotten to the planning stages about him already,” Holmes said. “When you talk about adding another one, it’s, can you financially add another one? Because you want to add the other one on top of everything else that you have and that makes it tough.”
Then Holmes was asked flat out after giving all that information if the Lions could add another top end pass rusher. His answer was a simple "Probably not."
That doesn't mean that Detroit just avoids pass rushers. There are still a lot of guys out there on the next level like Khalil Mack for example. He's hitting free agency this March and makes a lot of sense for Detroit. There are guys on the next level down like Azeez Ojulari who showed a lot of promise in New York. Then there are the guys that Holmes and company are in Indianapolis to see ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. They'll have plenty of chances to add talent.
