The NFL just dealt the Chiefs a bad hand with its scheduling decision on the Super Bowl LIX rematch with the Eagles

Fans won't have to wait long for a Super Bowl LIX rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to a report from FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz, the game will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14, during the Chiefs' home opener at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season. You can watch the game at 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX.

Unfortunate mistakes stand out in the NFL's scheduling decision for the Chiefs

Firstly, an afternoon game in Week 2 for a Super Bowl rematch seems rather anticlimactic, but that could come from the fact that Super Bowl LIX wasn't all that competitive. We hope that leads to some extra motivation for this Chiefs team. But that leads us to my second point. The NFL isn't exactly making it any easier for these two teams to unite and have a competitive football game. They're putting the K.C. in a proverbial grinder of a schedule.

The Eagles and the Chiefs will come off extended rest after facing a divisional opponent during the season's first week. Still, only one of those two teams is expected to travel over 4,000 miles from Kansas City to Brazil in Week 1. Philly will also get an extra rest day, no international travel, and open their season at home. That puts the Chiefs at a disadvantage, even with the extra rest over the NFL kickoff weekend.

Chiefs 2025 NFL Schedule News

So far, we've got three confirmed games for the Chiefs.

They'll play an AFC West opponent again on Christmas Day and an NFC East opponent on Thanksgiving. While the Week 1 matchup with the Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, isn't yet confirmed at the time of this posting, it's heavily rumored.
