The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premiered on AMC and AMC+ in 2023 with an action-packed journey following Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in an adventure overseas. What many thought to be an absurd notion turned out to be one of the best spinoffs in TWDU. Daryl Dixon season 1 chronicled the title character's journey to France, where he met many new faces, some friendly, others not so much. This summer the second season will premiere, which is subtitled The Book of Carol due to the fact it will mark the return of fan-favorite Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride).
The Book of Carol will premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival on June 8. The ticket information reveals the episode has a 51-minute run time. After the screening, showrunner David Zabel, executive producers, and stars Reedus and McBride will appear for a conversation. Other cast and creatives will also be present, but names have yet to be announced. Fans are hopeful that the exact date of the release on AMC and AMC+ will be announced during or soon after this event.
In a flashback during the first season of Daryl Dixon, Daryl makes a radio call to Carol, and he immediately notices that she is distressed by the tone of her voice. She begins to tell him that someone or something has returned but is unable to finish when the connection is lost. This is Carol's last conversation with Daryl before he is thrown onto a ship bound for France.
Before the call was cut short, Daryl was able to let her know he was in Freeport, Maine. In a surprise scene at the end of the season, Carol is seen looking for her best friend. Viewers see an unknown man riding Daryl's bike being pursued by Carol. She catches up to him and bashes him with a wrench to find out what happened to Daryl. She puts him in the trunk and demands to know where he got the bike.
In a recent sneak peek of The Book of Carol, it is revealed she arrives at the location where Daryl was employed to gather walkers in exchange for fuel in season 1. Unknown to Carol, these are the people who abducted Daryl and threw him on the ship. She quickly realizes something is wrong and does what Carol does best.
Showrunner David Zabel has stated that Carol has an active story, which includes a vital internal one that will be told throughout the season.
The returning cast for season 2 includes Clémence Poésy, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Laika Blanc Francard, Anne Charrier, Romain Levi, Eriq Ebouaney, and newcomer Manish Dayal has been announced for this season.
