The Walking Dead will shamble on with the second season of Daryl Dixon, subtitled The Book of Carol. New details revealed by AMC have included a first-look and release date for the new installment of the zombie saga, which sees the return of Norman Reedus as the titular motorcycle-riding crossbow-wielder along with Melissa McBride as Carol. While McBride skipped the first season, this time around she will be a main feature of the continuation of the France-set spin-off.
Although the new season of Daryl Dixon was originally expected to arrive in the summer, AMC has revealed that it will now debut on September 29. What is more, is that this time around, fans in the U.K. will not have to wait up to a year to see the continuation of the franchise, as Sky and NOW have announced that the new show will be available simultaneously with the U.S. release. (Although Season 1 of both Daryl Dixon and Dead City are yet to air in the U.K.)
The first season of Daryl Dixon picks up after the events of The Walking Dead’s Season 11 conclusion, with Daryl washing up on a beach in Marseille. After being asked to transport a young French boy to a secret location, Daryl and nun Sister Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) find themselves becoming embroiled in the kind of deadly struggles that have been the signature of the franchise for almost 15 years.
Daryl Dixon Season 2 Will Put a Lot of Focus on Carol’s Return
When Daryl Dixon was originally announced, it soon became apparent that Norman Reedus would be flying solo in his spin-off series. At the time, McBride was unable to travel to Europe, where filming on the series took place, and she was forced to step back from the new addition to TheWalking Dead universe. However, the actress was able to make a cameo appearance in the final episode of Season 1, teasing her full return in Season 2.
Carol’s fleeting appearance in Season 1’s finale saw her pursuing a man on a motorcycle in Freeport, Maine. This means that, for now, Carol and Daryl are still many miles apart, suggesting that a significant portion of Season 2 will address Carol’s journey to reunite with Daryl. This is something that showrunner David Zabel explained to Entertainment Weekly last year. He said:
"[Carol] has a very active story that's about her trying to find and protect her friend, who she's worried about. But she also has this internal story, which we've only hinted at, but there's a whole internal Carol story that plays out across the episodes of Season 2. And so she has a great dual track that we're setting her off on, and we've shot some of that already, and it's going to be fantastic when it's all together."
Since the end of the flagship series, The Walking Dead has recaptured some of its magic with its three spin-off shows, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Ones Who Live. Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol will be followed by Dead City Season 2 sometime in early 2025.
