Now, The Walking Dead has released a new clip from Dead City season 2, episode 7, showing Negan speaking with Benjamin (Keir Gilchrist) while sitting at Ginny's bedside. He talks about his past with his first wife, Lucille, and how he felt like he'd been selfish behind her back while taking care of her when she got cancer. He also feels blessed to have met Annie and had a son, Joshua, with her, but that he ruined his relationship with them too because of his actions.

What Dead City Season 2, Episode 7's Clip Says About Negan

He's Still Trying To Atone For Everything He's Done

While Negan's past mistakes are often associated with having killed Maggie's (Lauren Cohan) husband, Glenn, prior to the events of the spinoff, he's still been imperfect since before the apocalypse. He cheated on Lucille when she had cancer, but managed to make some level of amends with her in the early days of the zombie outbreak. As for Annie, he feels like he failed her because he killed the men who assaulted her, including Ginny's father. He sent her to Tennessee so she wouldn't be in the New Babylon Federation's crosshairs when they came looking for him.

However, despite these mistakes that led to the breakdown of two of his families, Negan is still determined to do right by the people he cares about. In the case of Ginny, her arrival means he can find some way of saving her life, potentially getting his hands on medicine that will stop her infected wounded from getting worse. While other characters in Dead City, like Maggie and Hershel (Logan Kim), will continue to see the darkness inside of him, he's still determined to make up for his past, even though he regrets so much of it.
