The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2’s New Villain Will Be Its Worst Yet

The Walking Dead has had its fair share of terrible villains over the years, but in its spin-off series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, zombie fans will be introduced to one of its worst yet when it returns for a second season. For viewers who have been missing the bloodcurdling zombie action from its stars, Jeffery Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, TWD: Dead City will make its way back to AMC at some point this year. Its most recent trailer from a few months ago showcased Negan, apparently, returning to his old ways as he could be seen whistling that creepy tune as well as being reunited with his bat, Lucille.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2's New Villain Will Be Its Worst Yet

The Walking Dead: Dead City revolves around the story of Maggie and Negan as they journey through zombie-infected Manhattan to rescue Maggie's son, Hershel, from The Croat. Of course, this being The Walking Dead, the infected aren't the only thing that the pair have to deal with, as gangs and dangerous humans fill the city's every corner. In season one, viewers saw Negan being hunted by a lawman called Armstrong, as well as encountering a group of savage survivors called The BuraziNow, it seems as though a new villain will enter the arena that looks like he will give even Negan a run for his money.

Kim Coates Talks About His Villain Character in Dead City Season 2

In an interview with MovieWeb to discuss his new Netflix series American Primeval, Kim Coates couldn't help but get onto the subject of his role in season two of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Coates, who has played some pretty mean characters in his lifetime, but most notably when he stepped into the shoes of Alexander "Tig" Trager in the FX series Sons of Anarchy, expressed that he has never played a character quite as "vicious" as the character of Brugal, which he said was definitely written for him.

"Eli Jorné, the showrunner, picked me and said 'You have to play this guy,' and I said 'Send me some of the scripts,' and they did. I gotta tell you, this guy was written for me. He's a dink. He's just a bad person, he's super smart, he's a billionaire. He lived in this incredible enclave during the zombie apocalypse in Manhattan, and when he came out, zombies were running Manhattan, he got his own little gang together. There's three or four gangs in Season 2, and Brugal is my name, and I'm certainly the biggest gang member of my squad. I kill a lot of zombies."

Although it's unclear if Brugal and Negan will come to blows, or even possibly team up, it's certainly a terrifying thought that Coates' character could be even worse than Negan's, especially after everything he has done. Fans shouldn't forget that Negan killed Maggie's husband Glenn in one of the show's worst killings, but the pair - at least for the most part - have accepted each other for the time being, but who knows how long that will last in the unpredictable world of Dead City.

Coates went on to gush about Jeffery Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, saying how much love he had for them both. Touching on Dead City's return in season two, Coates said that this time, the series would be "funny and violent, and crazy, and zombied out", and how he can't wait for Walking Dead fans to finally meet his "vicious" character.

Season one of The Walking Dead: Dead City is currently available to stream via Netflix right now, along with The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Season two of TWD: Dead City doesn't have a release date as yet, but it is slated for sometime in 2025.
