The Walking Dead Fans Are Flocking to Dead City After AMC Sealed the Spinoff's Fate

FlixPatrol reports that The Walking Dead: Dead City is up one spot and holding seventh place on AMC+'s Top 10 in the United States as of Aug. 4, 2025. At the top of the chart is Nautilus, the fantasy adventure show exploring the origins of the iconic Captain Nemo. The rest of the chart includes Monster Island (#2), Hell Motel (#3), Force of Nature: The Dry 2 (#4), Push (#5), National Lampoon's Vacation (#6), Dark Wins (#8), The Luckiest Man in America (#9) and Boys from County Hell (#10).

Last month, it was revealed that the popular The Walking Dead spinoff series would be back for Season 3, despite mixed reviews for Season 2. The new season will mark the return of a veteran writer from the original series, Seth Hoffman, who joins The Walking Dead: Dead City as a showrunner. Along with the renewal announcement came the news that Season 3 is expected to enter production this Fall. An official release date for the new season of Dead City has not been announced at this time.

The Walking Dead: Dead City premiered in 2023 with six episodes. It marks the fifth series in The Walking Dead franchise, with Lauren Cohan and Jeffery Dean Morgan reprising their roles as Maggie and Negan, respectively. The series follows the two The Walking Dead legends as they travel to a post-apocalyptic Manhattan in search of Maggie's kidnapped son, Hershel.

A second season of Dead City finished airing earlier this year, with eight episodes airing from May 4 to June 22, 2025. Despite being popular enough to warrant a renewal from AMC, the series has been divisive among fans -- and Season 2 ended up getting even worse reviews from audiences than the first. Critics have been more positive in their reception of the show, and it currently holds a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Walking Dead Veteran Teases Negan & Maggie's Next Chapter

When Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City premieres, fans will be able to see even more zombie action, with The Walking Dead's Seth Hoffman recently teasing where the story will be taking its two main characters. "I'm excited to have the chance to dive back into The Walking Dead Universe and work to deliver another dynamic season’s worth of stories to this epic franchise. It's a true honor to chart out the next chapter for Maggie and Negan's iconic adventures in Dead City," he recently revealed.

The President of Entertainment and AMC Studios, Dan McDermott, also talked about what will be coming up in Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City. He specifically mentioned "new adversaries and alliances [that will] push the boundaries of Maggie and Negan’s conflicted relationship."
