The Walking Dead Hid a Hilarious Easter Egg in Season 4 That Most Fans Missed

Even though The Walking Dead isn't known for its upbeat and funny moments, one scene from season 4 includes a hilarious Easter egg, and I'm not sure how most fans could have missed it. Despite being a zombie series filled with the trauma and the pain of trying to live in the post-apocalypse, The Walking Dead's relationships between its complex characters have always been a storyline worth telling, contributing to why it became one of the most-watched shows on TV.

Many loyal fans have continued watching re-runs of The Walking Dead and its spin-offs due to their love of the characters, and even though there have been plenty of epic battles, sad deaths, and zombie killings, the show's characters and their relationships with each other are exactly what makes it so compelling to watch. Between Shane and Lori (Andrea too), Arron and Eric, Sasha and Bob, and Rick and Michonne, viewers have seen relationships spring up in the most unlikely places. However, external relationships aside, the show also showcased what it was like to come to terms with a character's relationship with themselves and who they have turned into since the outbreak. The Governor and his internal conflict with himself was a prime example of this. Aside from his cruel and calculating acts, one pretty serious scene that shows this off includes a rather funny Easter egg.

An Easter Egg in the Walking Dead Season 4 Makes the Governor Look Like a Pirate

Although The Walking Dead season 4 premiered well over 10 years ago now, fans of the series still have fond memories of the season's explosive moments that include the return of the vengeful Governor and the flu outbreak at the prison. However, over on Reddit, one post has been talking about a funny Easter egg rather than the incredibly serious sequences the season held.

After the battle with Rick's group, the Governor abandoned his leadership role and took off alone, eventually coming across Tara and her sister Lilly, as well as their father, and Lilly's daughter, Meghan. While staying in an abandoned apartment across the hall from the family, there's a scene where the Governor wakes up on a pillow that has a parrot strategically placed on his shoulder, because a sense of humor is essential, even during the zombie apocalypse.

In an article in The Huffington Post from 2015, David Morrissey, who played The Governor, talked about his hilarious pirate Easter egg, stating, "There was one shot of the Governor, I think when he came back, and he was in his disheveled state with his beard and his hair when he was lying on the couch and a cushion behind him has a parrot, which was by his shoulder, so that was always quite funny."

After The Governor's death, Morrissey made a return to the show in Season 5 during one of poor Tyreese's horrific hallucinations, and even though we know that the series ended without the Governor making any more appearances, Morrissey revealed at the time that he would be happy to visit the set to make everyone a cup of tea. "To be honest, I would go down to Georgia and go to the set of 'The Walking Dead' in order to make them tea for an episode."
