The Walking Dead Just Had Its Most Brutal "Nope" Moment In Years

Although The Walking Dead has become known for its action and drama, the franchise has still been filled with plenty of uncomfortable scenes over the years and Dead City just provided one of its biggest "nope" moments in recent memory. Given how character-driven the zombie universe has become, it's easy to forget how important horror is to making the franchise so successful. While the more explosive sequences in episodes like "No Way Out" and "No Sanctuary" live long in the memory of fans, many of The Walking Dead's scariest scenes often go underappreciated and don't get enough love.

Alongside the countless jump scares that have featured throughout various projects, incidents like Connie and Virgil trying to survive the Ferals felt truly terrifying, but The Walking Dead's true horror comes from its more stressful encounters. Negan's introduction had my heart pumping in fear, not knowing who he would kill, while Rick's fight with the Claimers was painfully tense. However, Dead City season 2 brought back Maggie's fear of heights to create an extremely nerve-wracking experience, and even if it wasn't as grotesque as some of the franchise's most disturbing scenes, her bridge fiasco was far from easy to watch.

The Walking Dead: Dead City's Glass Bridge Is The Franchise's Biggest "Nope" Moment In Years

The Stressful Sequence Certainly Wasn't An Easy Watch

Maggie (Lauren Cohan) looking terrified as she looks down a glass bridge in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2

Dead City season 2's penultimate episode featured a terrifying moment involving Maggie on a glass bridge, and it is easily one of the franchise's biggest "nope" moments in some time. Even for those who don't have a fear of heights, the idea of being on a glass bridge as it shatters is hardly the most appealing concept, especially while being chased by walkers. Of course, it was Maggie's acrophobia that put her in such a dire situation, as the Croat crossed the bridge with ease, something Maggie could have also done if not for her fear and exhaustion.

Having gained little sleep the night before, she almost passed out while navigating the walkway before getting jumped by a small group of zombies. This caused her and the undead to fall onto the bridge, resulting in cracks starting to appear while Maggie began to panic. Seeing such an experienced survivor freeze in fear cemented how uncomfortable the situation was, and had it not been for the Croat extending a ladder to grab onto, Maggie would almost certainly have fallen to her death, only adding to the intensity of the situation.

Considering how little Dead City has used zombie variants, the bridge scene was the perfect way to remind viewers how dangerous walkers can be in specific situations. Fortunately, Maggie managed to survive the ordeal, but it still stands out as one of The Walking Dead's most unnerving moments in years, and I could only imagine how horrifying it would be to go through such an experience.

The Walking Dead's Glass Bridge Perfectly Combines 2 Different Phobias

Mixing Zombies & Heights Provided One Of The Walking Dead's Most Uncomfortable Scenes In Years

Despite leaning into its horror elements plenty of times in the past, The Walking Dead's glass bridge scene expertly combined two chilling phobias. Not only did it provide an anxiety-inducing scene for those afraid of heights, but it also mixed in zombies, which is undoubtedly a phobia for many people. Of course, those watching The Walking Dead may have learned to stomach zombies by now, given the TV universe has been going on for well over a decade, but the stress of dealing with heights and the undead for someone who hates both is surely a complete nightmare.

The unsettling encounter proved that the series still knows how to make viewers feel uneasy, with each obstacle offering its own unique challenge. Even if you could handle the zombies like Maggie, dealing with the shattering bridge while being able to see the city below would freak out many people. Likewise, if heights aren't a major problem for you, being chased by flesh-eating corpses could still cause some real panic, confirming that Dead City's bridge sequence is by far one of the franchise's most unenviable encounters in recent history.
