Multifaceted conflicts have kept characters in Dead City who are in these groups in conflict throughout season 2. New Babylon and Bruegel's group are both scheming against the Dama, Negan, and the Croat to get their methane, while the trio are trying to unite groups against outside threats. These battles all came to a head in season 2, episode 5, when tensions gave rise to explosive consequences. Said consequences mirrored a decision made in The Walking Dead season 8, with deadly results that will change the rest of the zombie spinoff's upcoming episodes.
Dead City Killed Off Two Groups The Same Way The Scavengers Died In The Walking Dead Season 8
Christos' Group & The Foragers Met A Very Similar Fate
Dead City season 2, episode 5 saw the Croat orchestrate the deaths of all the men in Christos' group during a meeting Negan was having to negotiate an alliance between them. He leaves the women and children alive, but the same can't be said for the other group that ends up getting destroyed in this episode. After learning Negan is alive from Ginny, Narvaez takes the Foragers hostage and executes their leader, Roksana, in front of them. Their mourning chants lead to Central Park's zombies breaking down the gates to their home, killing all of them in the process.
The death of both these groups in one episode is reminiscent of The Walking Dead season 8, episode 10, when Negan's right-hand man, Simon, kills all the Scavengers except for Jadis. During the episode, he tries to negotiate with them, only to instigate a fight that results in the Saviors killing everyone in the Heaps. It's also not the first time he's done it; much like how the Croat killed all the men in Christos' group, Simon was responsible for killing all the men in Oceanside prior to the events of season 7.
Simon's actions are very similar to the Croat's and Narvaez's, both high-ranking members of their respective groups killing everyone in other groups they believe pose a threat. All three villains made executive decisions to wipe out other people in hopes of getting an advantage in a large-scale conflict. Simon himself was responsible for two communities getting destroyed, both eerily similar to what happened in the spinoff show. It's a development that ties back into Negan's early days, while also showcasing a shocking turn of events for Dead City.
What Christos’ Group & The Foragers Dying Means For Dead City Season 2
The Croat & New Babylon Are Two Sides Of The Same Coin
This mirroring indicates all three perpetrators share a similar mindset of harming dozens of people just to protect their own interests.
The deaths of Christos' group and the Foragers is a reflection on the past, of how Simon's loyalty to the Saviors led to the Scavengers' deaths. This mirroring indicates all three perpetrators share a similar mindset of harming dozens of people just to protect their own interests. With both major groups in Dead City now off the board, and Narvaez also dead, the future conflict hinges on how New Babylon responds from the mainland, and what the Croat and Bruegel will be doing next.
