The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes returns in first look at new TWD 'crossover'

You'd be hard-pressed to find a franchise as enduring as The Walking Dead. What started with one six-episode TV series based on a beloved comic book has exploded into a mainstream phenomenon that saw that little show run for 11 seasons, spawn six spinoffs, and bleed into pop-culture itself for a very, very long time. Sure, its biggest days are behind it, but even now with the show having ended almost three years ago, the franchise lives on.

The Walking Dead's Rick Grimes returns in first look at new TWD 'crossover'

Spinoffs Daryl DixonDead City, and The Ones Who Live have breathed new life into the TWD Universe while also bringing back old characters to do that. What has made them different from previous spinoffs that ran parallel to the original series is that they actually center on main characters from that very show, catching us up with them years after events of TWD's series finale.

But that's not the only way that the legacy of the franchise has lived on, and the most recent way it has accomplished that involves bringing two beloved characters back to our screens.

First look at TWD's Rick, Michonne, and Daryl in Dead by Daylight

Rick Grimes and Michonne are back for an all-new adventure in Dead by Daylight. The classic video game previously announced the crossover with The Walking Dead would feature both of these beloved characters would be added as playable Survivors. Better yet, Andrew Lincoln is reprising his role as Rick to voice the character in the game.

The pair are also joined in the game by fellow Walking Dead survivor, with Norman Reedus also voicing the character. You can watch the launch trailer for all three characters' arrival below:

The full TWD x DBD crossover chapter went live on July 29 after it was available in the Player Test Build for users to trial out for a period of time. A glitch at that time prevented Michonne from being used as a playable character, but that has since been resolved for the actual release of the chapter itself, meaning that fans can enjoy the full Dead by Daylight: The Walking Dead adventure right now!

Rick and Michonne have their own unique perks (three each) that will make them extremely great Survivors to play as, allowing them to live up to their legendary reputations from their time on The Walking Dead. One of those perks includes a special team-up, which allows them to distract or escape from the Killer, while also distracting the evildoer in the process.

When major characters join Dead by Daylight, they are often accompanied by their own iconic fashion and style, meaning that it can sometimes include some of the awesome outfits worn by these Survivors in their respective franchises. Of course, we can expect the same from the TWD arrivals. Rick can don his iconic bomber jacket (complete with full beard) to represent one of his darkest periods on the series, while also throwing it all the way back to the beginning with his pilot episode hospital gown. Daryl Dixon serves as Rick's "Legendary Outfit", designed to add a new character to the game without actually being a new character. When selected, fans can play as the gruff hero of the TWD Universe complete with lines from Norman Reedus himself.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

Michonne also gets in on the fashion game, as there is the option for her to sport her early-on white-shirt and black vest combo, as well as her classic hooded cape which she was introduced onto the series wearing. Both legendary looks that served the character well, she looks every bit as badass as Danai Gurira's performance in the TWD Universe has been.

The game has teased more iconic Walking Dead outfits in the future, so there's definitely something worth keeping an eye on. In the meantime, as fans hope for Rick and Michonne's next comeback to the TWD Universe after spinoff The Ones Who Live and Daryl's next installment in Daryl Dixon season 3, this is very exciting indeed.
