The Walking Dead Theory Uncovers Sinister Connection Between Lizzie and the Whisperers

It's no surprise how many characters from The Walking Dead had complete mental breakdowns due to how severe and traumatic their living environment was. Trying to exist in a post-apocalyptic world where, if it wasn't the "walkers" trying to eat you, it was other survivors trying to kill you, was more than a challenge, even for the show's most robust characters. However, for The Walking Dead's children, trying to figure everything out while being scared to death could be even harder, and for Lizzie and her sister Mika, the already torturous apocalypse got much worse indefinitely.

The Walking Dead Theory Uncovers Sinister Connection Between Lizzie and the Whisperers

One of The Walking Dead's most heartbreaking scenes was witnessing the deaths of Lizzie, played by Brighton Sharbino, and Mika, played by Kyla Kenedy. Not only because they were kids, but because their lives were cut so short and, in that time, the pair faced the horrors of watching their father die at the prison and the demise of the group due to the Governor's sadistic actions. Left in the care of Carol, the two girls were in safe hands, but Lizzie's mental state was a constant worry. Things finally came to a head when, after the events at the prison, Carol, Lizzie, Mika, Tyresse, and Judith discovered an idyllic cottage located in a pecan grove, and their apocalyptic fairy tale came to a nightmare end.

The Walking Dead Fan Theory Suggests Lizzie Talked With the Whisperers

The Whisperers in The Walking Dead

It's safe to assume that most people don't want to see the death of a child, but this was something that The Walking Dead didn't shy away from. Due to Lizzie's belief that "walkers" were still people whom she would feed even live rats too, her delusional mental state took a steep decline when the small group settled at the quaint cottage surrounded by pecan trees. Despite Carol trying to make Lizzie see that the zombies weren't actually alive, Lizzie wanted to prove her wrong and killed her sister Mika to watch her turn. In an incredibly difficult scene, Carol had to shoot Lizzie as she believed there was no way back from her actions, laying the foundation for Carol's most famous quote, "Look at the flowers."

One commenter replied, "I love this theory, but the Whisperers were by Maryland (assuming they're not far from AHK or the Sanctuary) and the prison was in Georgia.", while another countered this argument by stating that there could have been more Whisperers scattered in different areas. Another fan of the show said that they were disappointed that Lizzie was killed off before The Whisperers were introduced as it would have been fascinating to watch her behavior. This particular theory ties back to Morgan, who says he sees “people wearing dead people’s faces”, which could have also been a possible connection to The Whisperers, rather than him having a mental break. However, The Whisperers were introduced to The Walking Dead comics in 2014, while season three of episode 12 aired in 2012.

The Walking Dead is currently streaming on Netflix, with season two of The Walking Dead: Dead City airing sometime this year.
