The legendary WTA duo of siblings Venus Williams and Serena Williams are often spotted at the annual MET Gala, and this year was no exception. However, the older Williams sister revealed they opted to try things a little differently at this year's edition.
Serena retired from the sport at the 2022 US Open, ending an illustrious career that saw her win 23 Grand Slam singles titles in addition to multiple Olympic gold medals. Older sister Venus has seven Grand Slam singles titles to her name, and is also a four-time gold medal winner at the Olympics. Although the former World No.1 is yet to officially announce her retirement, she has not played a WTA match since her opening round appearance at the 2024 Miami Open.
Both sisters break cardinal fashion rule
The MET Gala is an annual fund-raising fashion festival that features celebrities from all walks of life. Hosted in New York City, it gives attendees an opportunity to express themselves via fashion.
This year's edition saw the Williams sisters make their annual appearance. However, Venus admitted that she and Serena were unaware of each others outfits prior to showing up at the event, as they often text each other on what they are wearing beforehand.
"She doesn't know," said Venus when asked if Serena was aware of her outfit. "And you know we always we always text each other each other's designs. But this is the one year we didn't."
Venus was sporting a Lacoste outfit with a tennis skirt, polo shirt and bright green cape. Younger sister Serena was seen in a seafoam green dress by Moncler, topped with lace details and a big cape.
