Three Tampa Bay Lightning Players Represent Their Countries at the 2025 IIHF World Championships

The 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Championships began earlier this month in Stockholm Sweden and Herning, Denmark. As the tournament began, three Tampa Lightning players had the honor of suiting up and representing their countries: Defensemen Emil Lilleberg represented Norway, Janis (J.J.) Moser represented Switzerland, and Wojciech Stachowiak, a forward who the NHL announced signed on Thursday signed with the Lightning, represented Germany.

Emil Lilleberg - Norway

Lilleberg, the lefty shooter represented the Norwegian Hockey Team with the distinctive honor of captain. He played in all seven games for Norway during the IIHF World Championships. He had four penalty minutes on him and was -4 over the course of those seven games.

Norway did not make it out of the preliminary rounds as they were 1-7 and eliminated before the playoff rounds began.

J.J. Moser - Switzerland

Moser is also a left-handed shooter that played the 2024-25 season with Tampa. He is represented the Swiss Hockey team in this month’s World Championships. Switzerland has advanced into the semifinals rounds, going 6-1 in the preliminary rounds and winning their quarterfinals match. Moser played in all seven games of the prelims and the quarterfinal match. He had one goal, four assists, five points, and was +7 through those eight games, including their quarterfinals win on Thursday over Austria.

Switzerland will face off next against Denmark on Saturday at 18:20 local time (12:20pm EST). Win and they advance to the finals. Lose and they head to the bronze medal game; win and it’s onto the finals and the gold medal game to fight for a world championship.

Wojciech Stachowiak – Germany

The third Tampa Bay Lightning player representing his country in the IIHF World Championships is one that was just signed on Thursday, lefty forward, Wojciech Stachowiak. Stachowiak is representing his home country of Germany.

The Lightning signed Stachowiak on Thursday to a one-year, entry-level contract. He played in 52 games in Germany in 2024-25 for the DEL’s ERC Ingolstadt.

In the IIHF World Championships, Stachowiak played in seven games, scoring three goals, with three assists, six points, and two penalty minutes. He was +2, with two game winning goals, and one power play goal.

Germany was 3-4 in the tournament, being knocked out before the playoffs rounds.

As the IIHF World Championships continue, Lightning fans will have interest in how their defenseman, Moser and the Swiss Hockey team finish as they enter into semi-finals play on Saturday.
