Titans Former First Round Pick Sounds Off on Head Coaches Practice Outburst

Making first-team All-SEC is one thing, but having that type of success in the NFL is another. This 22-year-old found that out the hard way after a profanity filled rant to end the Tennessee Titans practice.

Brian Callahan didn’t hold back on his offensive unit after a disappointing day. While no one knows exactly what was said, all that’s clear is the second-year head coach is less than pleased with Tennessee’s offense.

JC Latham Understands Brian Callahan’s Disappointment

Last year, JC Latham started all 17 games he played in. The offensive tackle was a five-star recruit as he enjoyed a three-year tenure with Alabama. He played to the best of his abilities last season, as there’s only so much that could be done with Will Levis at quarterback.

The former No. 7 overall pick will now play right tackle with Cam Ward under center. Latham is one of many additions to the Titans offense in the past few seasons. As the team looks to turn things around, Callahan was less than pleased after their practice on August 3.

After Callahan ended practice with a rant that Tennessee won’t soon forget, Latham took a moment to collect himself. He was later surrounded by media who asked if his head coaches reaction was justified.

“Yeah, I mean absolutely,” Latham said. “We were 3-14 last year so any hint, sign, signature or whatever it might be of what last year was, that carries over. It’s for anybody, not just Callahan but anyone from anywhere. They’ve gotta say something about it.”

He continued, “In the warmup today we were talking… We don’t even want to think about last year. We don’t want to think about yesterday, whether we won or lost. Just get out here tody and be better.”

Fans appreciated his response, one that was quite mature for a player of Latham’s age. Even though the offense may not be clicking right now, there’s still plenty of time before the regular season begins.

The Future is Bright for JC Latham

Latham put up tremendous numbers as a rookie last season. Heading into 2025, he was named to Pro Football Focuses All-Breakout Team. That’s a high honor for any player, but specifically one who is switching positions. As it stands, Latham is slated to move back to right tackle.

PFF’s Bradley Locker spoke of Latham, “In his first season with the Titans, Latham finished with a 61.8 overall PFF grade, but his pass protection was more solid to the tune of a 67.8 PFF pass-blocking grade.”

“Considering that Latham was playing out of position at left tackle and along a unit that finished 30th in overall PFF grade, it hedges the results of his rookie campaign,” he added.

Locker noted that Joe Alt was the only rookie tackle to finish with an overall PFF grade above 66.5. With Latham moving back to the position where he’s most comfortable, many expect him to reach that grade.

The Titans have just four days until their preseason slate begins in Tampa Bay. Saturday, August 9 is the first test for a Tennessee team that won just three games one season ago. After playing two of their three preseason games on the road, they’ll open their season in Denver on Sunday, September 7.
