Titans GM Mike Borgonzi has team's biggest weakness trending in right direction

Time to cut to the chase. This was Pro Football Focus’ assessment, via Zoltán Buday, of the Tennessee Titans’ offensive front in 2024.

Mary Kay Cabot on X: "#Titans new GM Mike Borgonzi on if he'd trade the No. 1 pick. “We've had some calls.” All options are on the table. #Browns have the No.

“Due to good play from rookie left tackle JC Latham and a late-season emergence from 2023 first-round pick Peter Skoronski, the Titans took a step forward from being the worst offensive line in football. However, there is still a long way to go until the unit can be considered even average.

“From Week 10 onward, Skoronski earned an 85.4 PFF pass-blocking grade, which led all guards in the NFL over that period. He gave up only eight pressures on 349 snaps over that span. Latham appeared to hit a rookie wall toward the second half of the season, but up until Week 11, he earned a 74.2 PFF pass-blocking grade, which ranked 21st among left tackles.”

When it was all said and done, only four offensive fronts in the league finished with a lower grade than Tennessee. New Titans’ general manager Mike Borgonzi wasted little time this week addressing this area in free agency. He inked former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. to a four-year, $82 million deal (via Spotrac). While he is ranked No. 42 among PFF’s performers at the position, he’s played and started 66 regular-season contests, as well as three playoff games. As for the seventh overall pick in last year’sdraft?

Meanwhile, arguably the real coup was adding ageless guard Kevin Zeitler, who joins his sixth NFL team. He should solidify the right guard spot very quickly for veteran offensive line coach Bill Callahan. The Titans also signed versatile Blake Hance, who spent the past two seasons with the rival Jaguars, and will play a swing backup role this coming season.

Of course, Borgonzi and the Titans have the first pick in next month’s draft. A team that finished 3-14 this past season obviously has a lot of needs. When it comes to the offensive line, the club has added some experienced pieces. It will be interesting to see if that continues with a selection or two in the early stages of the draft.
