There was a group of people loudly advocating for the Tennessee Titans to move on from veteran kicker Nick Folk in favor of Brayden Narveson during the NFL preseason.
Narveson, an undrafted free agent currently with the Green Bay Packers, showed off his range with a 59-yard field goal in preseason Week 2. Narveson also made a high-pressure game-wining kick in that same game.
It was an impressive showing from the rookie. When it happened, there was a lot of noise about the Titans' commitment to veteran Nick Folk as their kicker for the 2024 season. After all, Narveson showed more range in the preseason than Folk has...ever.
But the reliability of Folk was something that Tennessee valued. On Monday Night Football in Miami, everybody got to see why.
Nick Folk broke an NFL record against the Dolphins and proved his doubters wrong. He became the oldest kicker in NFL history (39 years, 330 days) to kick three 50+ yards field goals in the same game. Folk made a total of five field goals on Monday night and was good from 51, 52, and 53 and different points on the game.
"I guess that's pretty good. That's pretty cool," said Folk when ESPN's Turron Davenport told him about the record. "One of the biggest things is we got our first win, so going into the bye, I'm feeling good."
Folk said his career longevity comes down to "lots of hard work" and great people around him. He credited longsnapper Morgan Cox and punter Ryan Stonehouse for much of success in Tennessee.
Folk's 389 made field goals in his career are 17th all-time. He passed David Akers on Monday and is three away from passing up Stephen Gostkowski.
With the Titans, Folk is a remarkable 36-for-37 on field goal attempts and 8-of-9 from 50 yards or longer. Meanwhile, Narveson gas already missed four kicks this years with Green Bay. Vindicating for Folk and his supporters.
