With only quarterback Will Levis under contract right now, the Tennessee Titans will sign a player to fortify the room in free agency. Two names of available options that Tennessee has expressed some level of interest in have emerged.
Former 2021 first-round picks Zach Wilson and Mac Jones are considered viable options at the position.
Titans could sign a veteran quarterback and still draft one
Neither name inspires a fan base looking for answers at the most important position.
Still, signing Wilson or Jones would be a realistic approach for a team that needs to approach its eventual roster overhaul with honesty and patience. Passer Will Levis remains with the Titans, but competition for a player that coach Brian Callahan benched in 2024 was always going to be in play. Tennessee was always going to sign a veteran option in free agency, and attempting to reclaim the careers of the former No. 2 (Wilson) and No. 15 (Jones) overall draft choices is far from their worst option.
Signing a quarterback in March also does not preclude general manager Mike Borgonzi from drafting one with the team's No. 1 overall selection in this year's draft.
"Our philosophy is we want to draft and develop," said Borgonzi at his introductory press conference last month. "That's going to be our number one thing, number one priority. But to be selective is just to have discipline in the process. We're going to have targeted players that we want. And if sometimes that player doesn't come to us, we're not just going to jump to the next player. We're going to have players that we're going to target. And you have to have discipline throughout that process as well."
Obtaining draft capital via trade for the current top spot in the 2025 NFL Draft is still the Titans' preference.
If Borgonzi does opt to draft Miami quarterback Cam Ward No. 1 overall, however, bringing Ward into an environment where he does not have to start right away would be ideal. Signing Jones or Wilson to compete with Levis and starting the best of the three in the early goings of this season would give Ward time to get his feet under him and get comfortable in Callahan's system. Tossing a rookie passer into the fire on a roster that is still miles away from meaningfully competitive does more harm than good.
Tennessee has options in addressing their quarterback problem and has given no indication that they need to rush that process.
