Titans' rebuild slammed by B/R's worst contracts list as multiple stars end up on it

The Tennessee Titans are trying to quickly turn things around, but analysts still think they’re taking the wrong steps.

The Tennessee Titans landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 Draft after going 3-14, now the team is determined to get things turned around. Of course, everyone will preach patience, but it’s no secret the franchise wants to return to being good sooner rather than later. After watching how the Houston Texans and Washington Commanders turned things around with talented rookie quarterbacks, Tennessee is hoping to do the same thing with Cam Ward.

It’s going to take more than Ward, though. The Titans know they need to build up their entire roster, and they’ve been trying to do that. Unfortunately, one analyst believes Tennessee’s attempt to get things turned around has resulted in the team handing out a couple of bad contracts. In a recent Bleacher Report piece, Kristopher Knox ranked the 10 worst contracts in the NFL heading into the 2025 season, and the Titans were on the list twice.

L’Jarius Sneed’s four-year deal worth $76.4 million was ranked at No. 9, and Dan Moore Jr.’s $82 million, four-year deal was ranked at No. 3.

Titans criticized for L’Jarius Sneed’s and Dan Moore Jr.’s contracts

Tennessee traded for Sneed in March of 2024, and immediately signed him to his deal. The move was praised initially, because the veteran corner was coming off four strong seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, helping the team win two Super Bowls. Unfortunately, Sneed was limited to just five underwhelming games in 2024, missing most of the year with injury.

If the rest of Sneed’s time in Tennessee is like the first year, this will be a bad contract. However, it could still prove to be a wise deal if he returns as the player he was in Kansas City.

Dan Moore Jr., on the other hand, was never held in high regard, and that’s why Tennessee was immediately ripped by everyone when they signed him this offseason.

"We've already established that bad teams often overpay to sign good players in free agency. In this case, however, the Tennessee Titans overpaid to land a player who might not even be considered "good."

While Dan Moore Jr. did start 66 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers and plays the all-important left tackle position, he's never played particularly well—there's a reason Pittsburgh drafted offensive tackles in the first round of consecutive drafts."

Maybe the Titans see something in Moore that no one else does yet. If that’s the case, this could ultimately prove to be a genius move. It’ll be up to Moore and Tennessee to prove everyone wrong. Until then, the Titans will continue to catch heat.
