When the Chiefs traveled to the White House last year, Travis Kelce had one moment that will go down in history. He walked right up to the microphone, but was pulled back by Patrick Mahomes before he could say anything.
So when he arrived for their visit this past week following their win in February over the San Francisco 49ers, he received a very important message.
“The Secret Service that’s all over the White House, they weren’t too happy with me. They weren’t too happy with me on my second time visiting ... When I walked in, we had about four or five Secret Service members come up to me and tell me, ‘You know, if you go up to that podium, we’re authorized to tase you. It is actually an order for us to tase you,’” Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast. “So that’s all that was going through my head. I had no idea President Biden was gonna ask me to come up and let me have my moment.”
However, President Biden ended up inviting Travis up to say a few words. And so he made it short and sweet.
“My fellow Americans, it’s nice to see you all yet again,” Travis said. “I’m not going to lie, President Biden, they told me if I came up here I’d get tased. So I’m going to go back to my spot.”
He was met with numerous laughs after that. And clearly getting tased was on his mind.
But his brother made one thing clear.
“If the president invites you up, you’re not going to get tased,” Jason Kelce said.
While this was the first time fans got to see the two brothers discuss the moment together, Jason did react to the speech after it went viral on social media.
"Man, I'm not gonna lie, that was tight. Well done @tkelce, doesn't get much cooler than that!," Jason wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
So in the end, the Secret Service didn't tase Travis and the Chiefs tight end finally got to say a few words into a microphone in front of the President of the United States.
That's got to be a bucket list item and a pretty cool story to tell.
