It appears that Trevon Diggs is ready to return from injury.
Cornerback Trevon Diggs set the NFL world a blaze in 2021 when he racked up 11 interceptions. After another Pro Bowl effort the following year, Diggs had his fourth season cut short with an ACL tear last September. The Dallas Cowboys still performed well on defense overall for the most part, but losing the ball-hawking skills of Diggs was certainly a major blow.
Luckily for Diggs, his injury gave him a full year to recover before the next season, which is usually the minimum for his type of setback. On Wednesday, Diggs took to his social media to post some workout videos of himself with on the beach and doing drills with Cowboys' defensive backs coach Al Harris, and he was moving extremely well as training camp draws near.
Running in the sand is significant because it tests the ability to plant hard and change directions, which is critical for a cornerback. Watching Diggs in drills, there isn't any hesitation in his movements, and that's a very important element when coming back from an ACL tear because it will allow him to play freely and relaxed.
Dallas reports for training in less than two weeks. Of course, there will be a lot of caution on the part of the Cowboys when it comes to Diggs. After all, he's one of their best players. However, the way he's moving at this point in his rehab is very encouraging for a bounce-back campaign in 2024.
The Cowboys saw DaRon Bland build on his excellent rookie campaign by leading the NFL with nine interceptions and earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2023. With the return of Diggs, especially if he comes back playing at a high level immediately, will make the Cowboys' defense that much more opportunistic when it comes to creating turnovers, which is something they've thrived on over the last few seasons.
