The Dallas Cowboys are always going to be heavily discussed by the national media. This offseason was no different as the Cowboys have been talked about since their season ended in January.
The Cowboys head into the 2024 season with high expectations despite their lack of postseason success.
Jerry Jones boldly stated that the team was going be 'all-in' during the offseason but that was far from the truth.
The Dallas Cowboys have yet to give Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, or Micah Parsons the big-time extensions that they covet.
That led to Lamb missing out on OTAs and mandatory minicamp. However, his absence led to more opportunities for other playmakers. Veteran Brandin Cooks is a player reaping the benefits but two young receivers also took full advantage.
ESPN released an article highlighting key players from every team's minicamp.
The two guys listed for the Cowboys were Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks. Todd Archer of ESPN was present at practice and believed these two stood out.
"With CeeDee Lamb skipping the voluntary portions of the offseason program, it opened up more opportunities for young receivers Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks. Both showed flashes of ability. Brooks was able to work through traffic well, especially on tight throws on slants. Tolbert worked all three receiver spots and was able to make plays at all different levels. "

That is exactly what you would want to hear and see if you're a Cowboys fan. Tolbert is heading into his third year and will be counted on this season. He came into the league as a smooth athlete who could stretch the field utilizing his speed and size. That hasn't materialized yet in the league but he has all the tools needed to take that next step.
With more reps at his disposal, Tolbert is showing his versatility and impact all over the field.
As for Jalen Brooks, he was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He didn't produce much last year as a rookie, recording six catches for 64 yards in seven contests. Over the course of the offseason, it's clear that he sharpened his skills and is looking to take a jump in 2024.
Brooks, 6'2, has nice size and is using his frame to make those tightly defended catches.
The next step will be continuing this trajectory in training camp and preseason but these practice reps could pay dividends during the regular season.
Lamb is the certified No. 1 wide receiver for Dallas but having these guys take a step forward will only elevate the offense.
