The Green Bay Packers have one of the youngest rosters in the league. However, that doesn’t mean they do not have their share of players on huge contracts. Any time a team gives a player a massive contract, there is risk. Teams pay for past production, hoping the play continues. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn’t. Ahead of the 2025 season, one NFL analyst gave a list of the most overpaid players at each position, and the Packers had two players named.
Green Bay Packers Who Are Most Overpaid
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport put together a list of the most overpaid players at each position. The Green Bay Packers had two players named, one on each side of the ball. Interior offensive lineman and newly signed free agent Aaron Banks is the first player. He signed a four-year, $77 million contract this offseason, making him the sixth-highest paid at his position. While he is a consistent player, the stats say he is more of a middle-of-the-road starter.
Edge rusher Rashan Gary is the second player on the Green Bay Packers to be named the most overpaid. He inked a four-year, $96 million extension in 2023. The former first-round pick hasn’t had a double-digit sack season in his career. When he signed the deal, he looked to be an ascending talent, but he hasn’t been able to show he can be a dominant edge in the league.
Time To Show Up
Both of these players can show they are worth it for the Green Bay Packers this season. Banks was given a massive contract because the Packers needed some help on the offensive line. Teams overpay all the time in free agency for a need. If the offensive line can protect Jordan Love, this will look like good money spent.
Additionally, the Green Bay Packers’ pass rush is under pressure to show up this season. Gary isn’t the only player under pressure to perform next year. Fellow first-round pick Lukas Van Ness has disappointed so far and needs to show he was worth the premium pick. Both Gary and Van Ness hope for big seasons to silence the doubters.
Final Thoughts
It was interesting not to see Love on this list. Many view him as overpaid, but Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence made the list. The Green Bay Packers have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. Can players step up and help them to a deep postseason run?
