Tyler Shough somehow catches stray bullet during Hall of Fame game when the Saints weren't even playing

New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough simply cannot catch a break from the national m media - it seems. The unluckiness from this recent moment isn't even his fault, either. During the NFL's Hall of Fame game to kick off the preseason, Shough took a bit of an offhand piece of disrespect from the broadcast crew.

Tyler Shough is older than Trey Lance and Spencer Rattler

The announcers mentioned that Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Trey Lance is still rather young when you consider how long he has been around in the NFL. They then mentioned that Lance is younger than Shough, who was just drafted this year. Shough was born September 28, 1999. Lance was born May 9, 2000.

Lance was drafted 3rd overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft. Shough was just the 40th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That is a crazy concept to consider. Lance's stint at North Dakota State did not involve a ton of starts. His tools were incredibly impressive, pushing him up draft boards.

For Shough, he dealt with multiple season-ending injuries. That lengthened his college career, across a few different stops around the country for college football.

Shough's age and injury history surely scared off some NFL teams. Those aspects to his prospect profile did not prevent interest from Kellen Moore and New Orleans, though. Now, he is locked into a quarterback competition alongside Spencer Rattler. Weirdly enough, Rattler was born exactly one year after Shough. He was born on September 28, 2000, so he is 24 years old as of now - also younger than Shough. Rattler was a 5th-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

We will see how Moore's battle at the QB spot shakes out. Both have had tough times and bright spots so far in training camp. Performances in the preseason against actual defenses from other teams around the league could determine who wins the job between Shough and Rattler.
