Veteran wide receiver John Ross is back in the NFL. Ross, who retired from the NFL in 2023, has signed a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ross attended the Eagles’ rookie minicamp earlier in May and apparently showed enough to land a contract with the franchise. After previously playing with the Cincinnati Bengals, he last played in the NFL in 2021 when he appeared in 12 games with the New York Giants and caught 11 passes for 224 and one touchdown.
Philly announced the news on their social media, revealing that Ross inked a one-year contract.
The Eagles have one of the best wideout duos in the league, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but their wideout corps is further down the depth chart. They hoped former New England Patriots’ WR DeVante Parker would emerge as the No. 3 option in 2024, but he made a surprising decision to retire earlier this month. This gives Ross a great opportunity to carve out a significant role on the team if he stays healthy.
John Ross was drafted ninth overall in 2017 by the Cincinnati Bengals and was predicted to have a bright future in the NFL thanks to his impressive speed. However, a string of injuries prevented Ross from reaching his potential. He managed to play only 37 games during his five years in the league, making 62 catches for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns.
