Cashman's status is still uncertain for this weekend but Kamu Grugier-Hill would take his place if Cashman can't go.
The Minnesota Vikings went into the bye week mostly healthy but still may be down a starter coming out of it.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell revealed Wednesday that linebacker Blake Cashman suffered a toe injury in London against the New York Jets. While it didn’t seem like much more than soreness after the game, the team has now diagnosed it as turf toe.
“Thought it was a little bit just sore leaving London. Went through the bye week and we’ve kinda established that’s what it is,” O’Connell said of Cashman’s injury.
The coach added that the starting linebacker’s status is still up in the air for the divisional clash this weekend with the Detroit Lions.
“He’ll be kinda day-to-day, week-to-week as he deals with that,” O’Connell said. “We really don’t know yet but don’t think it will be a long-term injury with IR or anything involved in that. We’ll just hopefully have him work through that and get back on the field as soon as possible.”
If he’s unable to go on Sunday, Kamu Grugier-Hill will likely start in his place. Grugier-Hill filled in for Ivan Pace Jr. in Weeks 3-4 this season and recorded interceptions in back-to-back games, although Cashman’s loss would still be impactful.
The Vikings and Lions are set for kickoff at noon on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
