Vikings WR Jordan Addison Gets Honest About Looming Decision After Turning Heads

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison is awaiting the NFL’s decision following his plea deal to “wet reckless” charges stemming from his arrest outside of LAX in July 2024. In the meantime, he is making his presence felt in training camp.

The Vikings practiced for the first time in this year’s training camp, and J.J. McCarthy found Addison in one drill, earning recognition from the team’s social media department.

“Airing it out to Addison,” the Vikings captioned the clip posted to X on July 23.

Addison seemingly took a step back in 2024, following his historic 70-catch, 911-yard, 10-touchdown rookie season with a 63-875-9 line. However, he missed two games with an injury after playing all 17 in 2023, meaning his per-game production improved.

Addison did that while experiencing a QB change from (mostly) Kirk Cousins as a rookie to Sam Darnold last season. Now, he must adjust to McCarthy.

That is no small task as Addison readily awaits the NFL’s decision.

Addison pleaded “no contest” to “lesser charges” after police initially charged him with driving under the influence.

With Addison’s situation having worked its way through the judicial system, the NFL is preparing to make its decision. As he has done since his first comments on the matter, Addison said he is prepared to accept whatever punishment, if any, the NFL hands down.

“Everything is out of my control right now,” Addison told reporters on July 23. “Whatever the league’s got for me, I’ll be prepared with whatever decision they make.

“Just [wanted] to get it all behind me, and just get on with the season.”

The league has already issued a statement.

“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review,” the NFL said in a statement, per Seifert on X.

Addison faces a multi-game suspension and “stands to forfeit over $88,000 per game missed due to suspension, and the full guarantee on his 2 years, $4.6M remaining would void,” per Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti on July 17. Addison will be extension-eligible after the season.

The Vikings still have Addison’s fifth-year option to decide on.

They could go that route rather than lock Addison in long term until they are confident his issues are behind him, with Addison also cited for “reckless driving” in July 2023.

McCarthy’s leadership has drawn rave reviews, including from Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.

O’Connell cited McCarthy getting together with some of his teammates (and ex-Viking wideout Adam Thielen) during the break, which Addison attended. That is key given the NFL’s decision could come done at any time.

The Vikings are rich with playmakers, led by Justin Jefferson, who plays Addison’s position.

Still, Addison and McCarthy could miss roughly a month on the field together, so banking as many reps together while they can could make the wideout’s ultimate return smoother.
