Third-year Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison, facing DUI charges in Los Angeles, is facing what could be a multi-game suspension for the 2025 NFL season.
Last summer, Addison, 23, was involved in an incident where he was found asleep behind the wheel of a Rolls Royce in Los Angeles, leading to his arrest and two misdemeanor DUI charges. Addison pleaded not guilty in December.
On Tuesday, July 15, Addison's trial began as a decision by the Los Angeles County Superior Court appears imminent this summer, which will aid the NFL in determining the potential punishment for Addison if found guilty.
According to Minnesota Star Tribune reporter Emily Leiker, Addison's first trial hearing was held on Tuesday; however, a new pretrial hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 17.
Ideally, Addison's decision will be made before training camp so he does not miss time at training camp this summer, which starts July 27.
According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Vikings expect Addison to be suspended. NFL league rules state that a first offense involving "substances of abuse" is punishable by a three-game suspension without pay, "absent aggravating circumstances," per ESPN's Kevin Seifert.
If Addison is convicted on two misdemeanor charges -- driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a .08% blood alcohol content -- a three-game suspension would be the most fitting punishment.
That could hinder J.J. McCarthy's start to the season with a vertical deep threat as proven as Addison in the lineup.
In two seasons, Addison has totaled 1786 yards receiving and 19 touchdowns.
