The Los Angeles Dodgers saw Walker Buehler sign with the Boston Red Sox on a one-year, $21.05 million deal this offseason. The star addressed fans on social media about the move.
Buehler took to X to make a joke about any fans who may have seen number 21 Dodgers jerseys under their tree on Christmas Day."
"The #21 Dodgers unis you guys got today are still cool! Im gonna wear a different one next year but I appreciate y’all rockin em nonetheless" Buehler exclaimed on X.
Buehler's deal with the Red Sox is valued a the same amount he would have received with the qualifying offer. Buehler had an abysmal regular season, the worst of his career. However, he put together a strong postseason, perhaps indicating he was back to his old form.
His 5.38 ERA across 16 starts left many questioning why the Dodgers kept on putting him out there. However, their rotation was decimated by injuries. Buhler ended the year on a high note with a strong postseason. His final two starts spanned nine shutout innings and 11 strikeouts. He also got the World Series title-clinching save on one day of rest.
Buehler has spent his entire career with the Dodgers. He is a two-time All-Star and received Cy Young Award votes in 2021 and 2019. Fans will not enjoy watching him pitch for the Red Sox, especially after his much-needed resurgence in the postseason. However, Buehler seems excited for the opportunity. He made 122 career starts for the Dodgers.
