The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 has released a new trailer during their panel at San Diego Comic-Con. One of several Walking Dead spinoffs, Dead City season 1 follows Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they travel to New York City to rescue Maggie's son, Herschel, after he's kidnapped by one of Negan's former Saviors, the Croat. Season 2 was announced soon after and will see Maggie returning to NYC to rescue Negan, who she traded away to the Croat in return for Herschel. However, Negan may not actually be in need of rescuing since it appears he's back to his villainous ways.

During The Walking Dead: Dead City's panel at SDCC, for which Screen Rant was in attendance, the first trailer for season 2 was released. Watch the trailer, below:

The new clip sees Negan being reunited with Lucille, the barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat he famously wielded as the leader of the Saviors. Maggie is, of course, back too, and is returning to Manhattan, apparently with the intention of saving Negan - who doesn't appear in need of much saving. The trailer also affords glimpses of the Croat, who is still very much alive, at least at the beginning of the season, and Kim Coates' new character Bruegel, a gang leader in New York.

Will Dead City Season 2 Set Up A Final Confrontation Between Maggie And Negan

Maggie seemed done with Negan forever after the events of Dead City season 1, which saw her delivering her old frenemy to the Croat in order to save Hershel. But things took an unexpected turn when, instead of killing Negan, the Croat gave him to the Dama, who tapped him as a leader strong enough to unite the communities of Manhattan in their battle against New Babylon, leveraging him into pledging his loyalty by threatening to harm Hershel (a ploy that seems to have worked, going by the new trailer).

Having escaped death once again, Negan is now poised to become more powerful than ever before, with a new Lucille in his hand, and a whole new group of followers ready to do his bidding. How the whole New York power structure works out with the Dama in the picture is yet to be seen, but Negan knows how to work a situation to his advantage, and could end up running everything before it's over. It's also possible he is only going along with the Dama's plans long enough to plot his own escape, while protecting Hershel.

Gaius Charles and Mahina Napoleon are also back for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2.

Maggie may indeed be in for a surprise when she gets back inside Manhattan, in her own quest to reunite with Negan, and take down the Dama, who she believes is still a threat to her and Hershel. The question is, will Negan take Maggie’s side and help her take out the Dama, or will he choose his new allies over her? Things could be set up for a final confrontation between Maggie and Negan, as a whole new Manhattan power structure takes shape in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2.
