The Walking Dead: Dead City concluded its second season on June 22. The high-stakes story featured the battle for the methane production in Manhattan between rival gangs and New Babylon. The eight-part season was filled with betrayal, death, emotionally charged decisions, and more.
Fans of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) have been thrilled to see these characters' stories continue in the spinoff. Dead City has expanded the reach of the TWDU, much like the Daryl Dixon spinoff, which is set in France, extending it to the streets of Manhattan. Both settings are quite a departure from the wooded setting of the main series. While Dead City season 1 saw the duo partner, the second season pitted them against one another.
Dead City season 3, will it happen?
During the Episode Insider feature at the end of the season finale, showrunner Eli Jorne described the mindset of Maggie, Negan, and Armstrong, who are ready to work together. He added that they are prepared to make a new world, one that isn't the Dama's or New Babylon's ideal, but something altogether different. He added that "I think that it means that the story is not over yet."
In an interview with TV Insider, TWD Chief Content Officer took a neutral stance, stating, "I will say this, there’s so much more story to tell in my mind. But you know me, I can neither confirm nor deny those sorts of things, and it’s a wild world. We’ll see."
This statement has fans hopeful for another season that will see the return of key characters, including the three above-mentioned, as well as Hershel, the Dama, Benjamin, and, no doubt, the Croat. Maggie has told her son she won't leave the city, but "moving on together" can't mean remaining on the island that is still inhabited by gang members and New Babylon. Add to that, Negan now knows the location of his wife and son.
While that finale montage seemed like a series ending, another season could add so much to the stories of Maggie and Negan. Now we wait to see if AMC makes the announcement for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3.
