The Jonathan Kuminga saga in the Bay continues.
The consensus is that there isn't much of a market for Kuminga at the moment, making it difficult for Golden State to cut ties with the former lottery pick.
Still, according to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Warriors hope to eventually move on from Kuminga via a sign-and-trade to the Chicago Bulls.
“Kuminga’s camp want a big deal in the $30M+ range and don’t want to be back with Warriors,” Siegel reported Saturday. “Golden State wants a small deal in $20M range where they can flip him because there’s no market.”
“Dubs still holding out that a S&T with Bulls can happen. Ayo Dosunmu is a good player.”
Kuminga’s 2024-25 campaign with the Warriors was essentially one long rollercoaster ride.
The NBA champion forward was an average contributor during the first two months of the year, but hit his stride in month No. 3.
Kuminga averaged 21.0 points on 46.4% from the field and 35.4% from three-point land, but his play was overshadowed by the Warriors’ unsatisfactory 4-7 December showing.
Following a disappointing ankle sprain and more competition at the forward position (the organization acquired Jimmy Butler on Feb. 5), Kuminga’s role diminished rapidly.
The skilled four-year contributor was on the outside looking in to close the regular season, causing individuals to speculate about his future with the Dubs.
Although Kuminga helped his case by netting 20.8 points per game on 54.3% from the field and 42.1% from deep against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the postseason, his overall 2024-25 performance was nothing to write home about.
With the Warriors having their sights set on sending Kuminga to the Bulls at some point, it wouldn't be shocking to witness the Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo native’s tenure with Golden State end this summer.
