NHL teams have been busy this past week as numerous players have been put on waivers, and the Washington Capitals, in particular, have been busy.
Today, it was revealed that they were putting three players on waivers. However, one of them is a fan-favorite who has become a bit of a journeyman as of late. Of course, we are talking with Ethan Bear who really took off as a player with the Edmonton Oilers.
Bear had signed a two-year deal with the Capitals about a year ago. However, last season, Bear only managed four points and played under 30 games. Injuries were rough for him and in the end, the team just figured it would be best to let him go. He is expected to be picked up eventually.
'Today:
Harkins (ANA)
DiPietro, Lettieri, Oesterle (BOS)
Lockwood (FLA)
Ward (LA)
Dowling, Hardman, Laberge, Legare, Willman (NJ)
Lycksell, Richard (PHI)
Bemstrom, Clurman, Gruden, Koppanen, Kral, Ludvig, Poulin (PIT)
Tomkins (TB)
Steeves (TOR)
Bear, Philp, Sgarbossa (WASH)'
We wish Bear and every other player who hit waivers the best of luck, moving forward. This is never an easy time for any player. However, we're sure they will be able to find work sooner rather than later. If anything, this just goes to show how hard of a business the NHL is. So many talented players but only so many roster spots.
