The New York Jets had Sunday off after defeating the Houston Texans on "Thursday Night Football."
New York's victory may end up looming large for the remainder of their season, especially after the results around the AFC East in Week 9. After entering the week in last place, the Jets now sit in second place with plenty of weeks remaining in the season.
The Buffalo Bills defeated the Miami Dolphins, completing a season sweep. The Jets will not face the Dolphins for the first time until December, and still have another matchup with the Bills ahead of them, so they largely still control their own destiny with those two teams.
The New England Patriots, coming off their shocking win against New York last week, lost to the Tennessee Titans, meaning their win against the Jets last week will not have a massive impact on the division standings as long as New York can continue to win.
The Jets now remain 3.5 games behind the Bills for first place in the division and 0.5 games ahead of the Dolphins for second place with nine games left in the season. Buffalo still has to face the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions, who look like a true Super Bowl contender.
Meanwhile, the Jets only face two teams above .500 for the remainder of the season: the Bills and the Arizona Cardinals, leaving plenty of room for them to get back into the playoff race.
