Which Ex-QB Is Ripping Jalen Hurts?

Jalen Hurts is one of the winningest quarterbacks in the NFL since becoming the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021.

While Philadelphia's franchise quarterback has shown the resume of a consistent winner in this league, not everyone has been impressed with his play over the years - especially in recent weeks.

Despite the Eagles' strong 8-2 start, Hurts' detractors have remained loud and boisterous in their criticism of the quarterback. One of the latest? Former college football superstar Colt McCoy.

The former 12-year NFL veteran made it clear on his Clean Pocket podcast that Hurts is still holding Philadelphia back.

"My holdup is Jalen Hurts. You watch the game, and you go back and see the highlights, and it's like, he doesn't do anything crazy or special. He's 18 of 30 for 200 yards and two touchdowns. It's like, how does this happen? He rushes for two touchdowns a game with the ‘tush-push.' … I don't see these big-time throws, or great reads, or awesome third-down conversions. Jalen just kind of figures it out and relies on everyone around him."

McCoy finished as one of the winningest quarterbacks in college football but went just 11-25 as a starting quarterback in the NFL. For McCoy to think that Hurts is holding the team back due to his lack of numbers is interesting, to say the least.

After all, Hurts has improved his passer rating, completion percentage, and turnover rate from the previous year in 2023. To think that Hurts has to do more simply isn't true.

At the end of the day, Philadelphia's star quarterback is doing all he needs to do to win. And McCoy should recognize that's something he never could do.
