There are a lot of GM and HC openings in the NFL right now. Right before I started writing this, the Raiders fired their GM Tom Telesco. A guy most known for bombing completely on JC Jackson and hiring two dumbasses as HC. Now if the Jaguars find the light and boot the traitor in their midst, there would be 8 openings. And unfortunately in this case, the Buccaneers have a lot of talented people in their front office and coaching staff.
Let’s get the most obvious one out of the way. Liam Coen will be getting a lot of looks for a potential HC. The most interesting thing so far is that only one team has requested an interview with him, and that’s the Jacksonville Jaguars. That will likely change as the Jets still need to get their interview with Jeff Saturday scheduled first. But I imagine all the teams with challenges on offense will look at him. I predict Saints, Raiders, and Bears will soon follow (I take it back the Raiders apparently are already looking at him).

The question isn’t of course who will want to offer him a job. That’s a given. Almost assuredly someone will want to throw money at him. However, I don’t think it happens. Now, I know I said the same thing about Canales. But I think there is a key difference. The teams that are left are known for being cheap. David Tepper was able to throw several Brinks trunks at Canales because he has that money. Mark Davis doesn’t have that, the McCaskeys are cheapskates, and Coen won’t want to work with Trent Baalke. The Glazers should be able to convince him that he needs one more year before he is prime HC material.
The other two are the right and left hand of Jason Licht. John Spytek has drawn interest from the Titans and Mike Greenberg (the other one) has drawn interest from the Jets. Now, I don’t consider either of these places to be prime spots for any GM candidate.
They do have some perks that make them interesting. The Titans don’t seem to have their coach (although maybe Brian Callahan looks better next year), but they do have the number one overall pick. And the Jets I think provide an interesting challenge that I think Mike Greenberg would want to embrace. He really seems to like solving really tough cap problems. Coupled with the fact that he’s a Jets fan, I think he’s probably gone after this year. In fact, I think they both are. Unless they have zero interest in being GM at all (always possible but not likely), they have been waiting in the wings for a long time.

Outside those three, there’s likely nobody else that will attract interest. There may be a few random assistants that are poached to become OC somewhere. Maybe the Chicago Bears look at WR coach Bryan McClendon for OC for example. It would be somewhat plausible considering he did play for the team in 2006. Also if Coen is poached, he may attract a few guys like Canales did. I also can’t see many guys on the defensive side of the ball getting a lot of looks, even if that side of the ball has gotten better. Losing two of our top ranking GM assistants would hurt, but Coen would hurt the most. The Glazers need to make like the Bucs most successful offensive formation and pony up.
