Despite the fall from grace that the Philadelphia Eagles experienced in the latter stages of the 2023 NFL season, this team is still one of the best teams in the league.
The Eagles have a knowledgeable head coach in the form of Nick Sirianni although his antics are questionable. Furthermore, they have a strong receiving core and have upgraded the back field by adding Saquon Barkley to their roster.
While Philly did struggle with their defense this past year, they have several good playmakers and will be guided by a new highly respected defensive coordinator in Vic Fangio.
But the general on the field for the offense is the quarterback. Last year, Jalen Hurts struggled to replicate a similar season that he had in 2022 when he led the team to the Super Bowl game, but this is not a case of a one-season wonder story for Hurts.
Let us explore why Hurts will win the MVP in 2024.
Limiting The Turnovers
If we look at what Hurts achieved in 2023, there was not a whole lot that went wrong for him. The main concern from the past year was his apparent increase in the number of turnovers.
In fact, he had the highest number of interceptions with 15 and fumbles lost with 5 in his career thus far. These numbers are significantly higher than his previous seasons which directly resulted in some bad games.
From the 15 interceptions he threw, some of them were down to the fact that he was just unlucky due to balls being tipped or having to force a play. Yet, the most common factor from his other turnovers came from the fact that he didn’t generate enough velocity resulting in the ball not reaching the intended player.
There is no doubt with the caliber of a player that he is, Jalen Hurts will sort out this issue in the 2024 season. Apart from this, he has been consistent in his passing yards, completion percentage, and touchdowns thrown.
New Offensive System Under Kellen Moore
After the debacle of the 2023 season, the Eagles went out and got themselves a pair of new coordinators. While Vic Fangio will be taking over the defense, the offense will be monitored by Kellen Moore who is a former NFL quarterback and has a five-year experience as an offensive coordinator.
Having previously worked with the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Chargers, Moore has had successful stints with both teams. He also helped Dak Prescott and Justin Herbert to a great deal which included a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2.9 for the latter.
Hurts on his part is making it a point to have a better relationship with his new coordinator this time around and with the two working together, the Eagles QB1 should be set for another monumental season.
Continuing His Dual-Threat Domination
In Jalen Hurts, the Eagles have one of the top rushing quarterbacks in the league. He is coming off of three consecutive seasons of over 600 rushing yards.
Moreover, in 2023, Hurts also added 15 touchdowns on the ground to go along with his 23 in the air.
If he can manage to keep the same intensity while running the ball once again, Hurts will prove to be difficult to stop just like in 2022.
