There’s no question that the previous season was a good one for quarterback Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers. For former NFL star Robert Griffin III, though, the Detroit Lions will stand out as the better team and win NFC North by next year.
The Packers’ 2023-24 season marked a new era, as they transitioned from long-time quarterback Aaron Rodgers to 2020 first-round pick Love. After Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets, Green Bay entrusted their offense to the 25-year-old quarterback, who was making his first season as the full-time starter.
In the Wild Card round, the young Packers squad made history by becoming the first seventh-seed to win a playoff game, defeating the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys 48-32. This marked the team’s first postseason victory without Rodgers or Brett Favre since the 1980s.
Though the Packers’ playoff run ended with a narrow loss to the eventual NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, the 2023 season offered encouraging signs for the future. With Love’s impressive growth and a talented supporting cast, the Packers appear poised to remain a contender in the NFC for years to come.
Why Former NFL Star Robert Griffin III Picked the Detroit Lions Over Green Bay Packers To Win NFC North
After Green Bay’s impressive run last season, a lot of fans and critics have projected the team to take another leap soon. For former Griffin, though, there’s no chance the Jordan Love-led team will win against the Detroit Lions in the NFC North division, as seen in a video posted by ESPN.
“This isn’t a team that’s not gonna let 30 years of not winning their division just go to the wayside. Jared Goff just got paid, he earned it. Amon-Ra St. Brown is a star now, staring in Netflix. He’s a problem on the football field, but they also got David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams is ready to step up, Sam LaPorta. And I actually believe Aidan Hutchinson has a chance to be in the conversation and potentially win Defensive Player of the Year. So I think the Lions are still frontrunners there in the NFC North,” Griffin said.
The Lions had a historic season, tying their franchise record with 12 wins and capturing their first NFC North division title since 2002. Led by coach Dan Campbell and GM Brad Holmes, the Lions earned a home playoff game and won their first postseason contest since 1991.
It remains to be seen who will come out on top of the said division when everything is said and done by next year. In any case, it’s going to be a battle between these two teams when the upcoming NFL season starts.
