Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury was linked to several head coaching jobs this cycle.
The Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints were two teams that requested interviews for Kingsbury, although the Commanders OC wanted to wait until after the team's playoff run, per Mike Florio.
After the Commanders' NFL title game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kingsbury decided not to take any interviews and chose to remain in Washington D.C. for another year.
On Monday, Washington D.C. sports host Grant Paulsen revealed that the Saints job was Kingsbury's "if he wanted it."
"From the Super Bowl week notebook: I was told by a rival team official the Saints job was Kliff Kingsbury's if he wanted it," Paulsen wrote.
"Was made clear to him that was the case. He preferred calling plays in DC and staying with Daniels over taking the gig."
Per this report, the Saints job would've gone to Kingsbury, but he decided to stick around with the Commanders and emerging quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Kingsbury spent four years as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals before being fired at the end of the 2022 season.
Moreover, the Cardinals are still paying Kingbury's contract.
Kingsbury then joined the USC Trojans staff as a senior offensive analyst in 2023 before coming to the Commanders as the OC.
The Commanders finished one win shy of a Super Bowl trip, and that's in the first year with head coach Dan Quinn and rookie QB Jayden Daniels, so there is a lot of promise.
As for the Saints, the expectation is that Philadelphia Eagles OC Kellen Moore will be the next head coach, although the job could've been Kingsbury's.
