Out of all of the marriages on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin’s is one of the few that has stood the test of time. They’ve spent three decades together, but of course, they’re far from perfect. They’ve had their highs and lows.
During a recent episode of their podcast, Let’s Not Talk About the Husband, Rinna reflected on a dark time in their marriage when she threatened to murder Harry. Literally! She called it a “psychotic” time in her life, and she attributed it to a serious case of postpartum depression.
Lisa Rinna threatened to kill Harry Hamlin during postpartum depression battle
Lisa and Harry dished on their postpartum challenges during the April 18 episode of their pod. According to Rinna, she felt “absolutely hopeless” after giving birth to Deililah Hamlin in June 1998. When Amelia Hamlin came along in June 2021, the postpartum hit Rinna even harder.
“You said, ‘I’m gonna kill you,’” Harry recalled. “And I said, ‘You better call [your OB-GYN] right now.’ You said, ‘You better watch out. I feel like killing you.’ You said, ‘Keep the knives in the drawer.’”
Naturally, Rinna didn’t remember making that specific threat. However, she did recall having violent thoughts. It’s one of the many symptoms women can experience after giving birth.
“I was having horrible hallucinations of killing people, and I needed to take the knives out of the house,” Lisa confessed. “And I also had horrible visions of driving the car into a brick wall.”
With that said, Lisa explained how two people were exempt from her violent visions: Delilah and Amelia. Although some women suffering from PPD will have thoughts of harming their little ones, Rinna said she never experienced that specific symptom.
“I did not have horrible visions about hurting the baby in any way, shape, or form. It wasn’t about that,” Lisa clarified. “It was about hopelessness, darkest depression, and these horrible visions, hallucinations.”
Fortunately, Rinna had access to healthcare that helped her navigate the dark period in her life. Her doctor prescribed her antidepressants, which she said worked “instantly.” Now, she’s hopeful that other women can learn from her experience and seek help if they’re suffering.
