Why Maggie Collapses & Negan Is Hallucinating In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, Episode 7

While Maggie and Negan's separate journeys continued in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, they both suffered anxious moments in "Novi Dan, Novi Početak" that could've been fatal. After traveling alongside the Croat, Maggie passed out during a fight with a group of walkers while Negan saw hallucinations during his hospital raid, raising questions as to what was going on with the duo. Although they crossed paths in the previous episode, Maggie and Negan's Walking Dead missions didn't really overlap in episode 7, yet the two were both motivated by the prospect of saving their loved ones.

Why Maggie Collapses & Negan Is Hallucinating In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, Episode 7

Negan headed to Bellevue Hospital in an attempt to grab medical equipment for Ginny, who was suffering from an infection. He managed to successfully get what he needed, but it's still unclear whether it will be enough to save his adopted daughter. Similarly, Maggie reluctantly worked with the Croat in an attempt to find Hershel, and despite completing her mission, she was ambushed upon arrival as Dead City confirmed that the Dama was still alive. Both protagonists had truly wild rides in season 2, episode 7, but their out-of-character moments were subtly explained throughout "Novi Dan, Novi Početak".

Maggie Collapses From Exhaustion In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, Episode 7

Despite facing one of her biggest fears shortly before collapsing, the reason for Maggie's fall simply came from exhaustion. In the previous episode, Hershel attempted to sneakily poison Bruegel's people during the middle of the night, with Maggie catching him in the act. The teenager then attempted to leave the museum before he and his mother confronted a bear, which Maggie subsequently fought and killed, albeit with some assistance from Hershel. Still, the teenager managed to escape with Maggie setting off to look for him, leading to her getting no sleep.

She stopped by the church to get answers from Negan before eventually finding the Croat inside the King Francis theater rather than her son. The two worked together and made their way to the top of an extremely tall building filled with traps, where Maggie began showing signs of fatigue. Eventually, they came across a glass bridge that they had to cross, with Dead City once again exposing Maggie's fear of heights. She nearly collapsed during this sequence but eventually made it across with the help of the Croat only to find a maze full of zombies inside an office.

Season 2's penultimate episode highlighted Maggie's exhaustion escalating throughout the episode, and her desperation to find Hershel caused her to neglect her own welfare, which nearly cost her dearly.

While the Croat navigated this area with ease, Maggie's lack of sleep continued to consume her as she sloppily fought her way through before collapsing. Fortunately, the Croat helped her to safety where she finally rested, but this incident could have been a whole lot worse. Season 2's penultimate episode highlighted Maggie's exhaustion escalating throughout the episode, and her desperation to find Hershel caused her to neglect her own welfare, which nearly cost her dearly.

Negan's Hallucinations Are Caused By Hitting His Head In The Hospital

Whereas Maggie's fall was caused by her lack of self-care, Negan entered the hospital healthy and able-minded, but he had a fall of his own that prompted his hallucinations. As he made his way through the building, Negan encountered a young zombie, seemingly testing his no-killing kids rule. True to his word, he tried to slip past the undead child but ended up tripping and hitting his head off an object in the hallway, briefly knocking him out. Thankfully, he recovered without being bitten, but his injury did seem to have lasting effects, as evidenced by his visions.

Alongside having hallucinations of Annie and Joshua in Dead City, Negan even thought he saw his dead wife, Lucille, proving just how damaging the blow to his head was. Imagining his loved ones did seem to help motivate Negan, as the former villain powered through despite his vulnerable state and secured the equipment he was looking for. Still, there's no guarantee his head injury won't continue affecting him in Dead City season 2's finale, as the franchise could continue using hallucinations to further Negan's story and bring back important characters, making this seemingly minuscule fall quietly significant.
