Will Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa follow in footsteps of Packers' Jordan Love?

Last week, Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead confidently predicted that his club signing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a lucrative contract extension was "of course" going to happen this summer.

Will Tua Tagovailoa follow in footsteps of Jordan Love?

After Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters on Monday that his team was "close" to locking signal-caller Jordan Love down via an extension, NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN offered an update on talks between Tagovailoa and the Dolphins.

"I don't think they're as far along right now as the Packers and Jordan Love, obviously. I think both sides would like to get it done," Schefter said during a Monday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" about the situation involving the Dolphins and Tagovailoa, as shared by Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report. "The Dolphins have been very open about the fact Tua is their guy into the future, but the question is, what is the number?"

According to Beasley, neither Tagovailoa nor Miami head coach Mike McDaniel is scheduled to speak with reporters before Wednesday morning.

It was previously reported that Love will not be "taking less" money per season than what is attached to the five-year contract extension worth up to $275M with $142M fully guaranteed that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence signed in June. While Tagovailoa is a more proven commodity than Love as it pertains to overall body of NFL work, Miami's QB1 has a concerning injury history even though he started every game for the Dolphins last season.

Schefter suggested during show segment that the Dolphins and Tagovailoa's camp disagree on the guaranteed money associated with a possible extension. Tagovailoa's asking price may go up if Love resets the market for young quarterbacks with a deal as soon as Tuesday, but it's worth noting that the Dolphins can threaten to keep Tagovailoa in the final year of his rookie contract knowing that they can retain his rights for 2025 via the franchise tag.

In short, Tagovailoa may have millions of reasons to not practice until details about Love's expected extension go public.
