With Jahan Dotson gone, this Commanders receiver is on hot seat

The 2024 season should be a make-or-break season for Washington Commanders veteran receiver Dyami Brown.

Heading into the final year of his rookie contract, Brown will have an increased role as the No. 2 wideout behind Terry McLaurin following the trade of WR Jahan Dotson to Philadelphia.

A 2021 third-round pick out of North Carolina, Brown has underwhelmed in his first three seasons in Washington, totaling only 29 catches for 476 yards and three touchdowns.

New head coach Dan Quinn has confidence in Brown.

"I can't speak to the past, but what I can say is from what I've seen here, the competing, he's on special teams, he's really going for it," Quinn said, per the team's web site.

Brown apparently has the trust of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, as the two connected five times for 74 yards in two preseason games.

With defenses focused on McLaurin, who has had four straight 1,000-yard-plus receiving seasons, Brown should get plenty of one-on-one opportunities.

McLaurin and Brown will have help at the receiver position in rookie Luke McCaffrey (younger brother of Christian McCaffrey), Olamide Zaccheaus and Noah Brown, who the Commanders recently signed after his release by the Texans.

A slow start by Brown, however, could push him to the back of line, so this could be a career-defining season for the fourth-year receiver.
