Worf's Star Trek Background, Explained
Worf Was a Historic, But Tragic, Character
Worf, who distinguished himself aboard both the Enterprise and Deep Space Nine, has found his life in disarray once more. Retired from Starfleet, Worf comes back into action when a mysterious force begins killing the galaxy’s gods. The culprit was revealed to be Kahless, the Klingon Emperor. When Kahless recruited Worf’s son Alexander, it led to a fallout between Worf and the returned Benjamin Sisko. Taking his leave, Worf would later become captain of the Defiant. After Kahless’ crusade ends, Starfleet presses Worf and his allies into becoming mercenaries, running dirty missions for the organization.
Worf’s experiences as both skipper of the Defiant and the events of Day of Blood have taken a toll on him. Both force Worf to see the darkest parts of the galaxy, both physical and spiritual, compounded by Alexander’s betrayal. Father and son began the reconciliation process, but what should have been Worf’s greatest moment was soon short-circuited by his new mission. This new mandate took him to Starbase 99, which was under the influence of the “Conspiracy” parasites. Worf and his crew are forced to turn back an alien invasion by themselves.
Worf's First Loss As a Captain Will Haunt Him Forever
It Will Be the First of Many Losses He Will Suffer as a Commanding Officer
Captains are responsible for the lives of their crew, and for someone duty bound as Worf, this is an obligation not taken lightly.
Worf was once again victorious, but as usual, it came at a major price: the loss of Nymira. Worf has served in Starfleet for decades, and has experienced the death of fellow officers, including Tasha Yar. Yet Nymira’s death was the first Worf dealt with as a commanding officer. Captains are responsible for the lives of their crew, and for someone duty bound as Worf, this is an obligation not taken lightly. This tragic milestone is a turning point for any captain, but for Worf, his new mission in the Star Trek universe has made the loss even worse.
