'Worth Monitoring' – Commanders Star Skips Practice For New Contract, Trade

Two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin is skipping voluntary workouts as the former third-round pick seeks a new contract. Originally entering the league in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Ohio State product has been one of the league’s most consistent receivers despite a constantly-rotating door at quarterback. Now paired with a true franchise quarterback in Jayden Daniels, McLaurin finished his age-29 season with 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns while making the second Pro Bowl of his career.

'Worth Monitoring' – Commanders Star Skips Practice For New Contract, Trade

Now entering the final year of his contract, Terry McLaurin wants a new deal and is willing to skip OTA’s while negotiating for an extension. McLaurin is a great player and Washington could win a Super Bowl with Daniels, so it’s probably just a matter of time before the two sides come to terms on a long-term deal. However, if extension talks go south, the Commanders could cash out and sell the wide receiver to the highest bidder. Even though he is entering his age-30 season, several teams should be willing to roll the dice on McLaurin.

Terry McLaurin Skips Practices For New Contract, Trade Could Emerge

Possible Fits

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have an army of depth wide receivers but lack a true difference-making threat. The team signed Stefon Diggs to potentially provide that boost to the offense, but he’s injured, on the wrong side of 30, and enjoying the summer a little too much. Terry McLaurin is a better option at this stage in their respective careers, and New England has the money to give him whatever type of contract he desires. Franchise quarterback Drake Maye needs a legitimate WR1, and McLaurin could provide that stability.

Buffalo Bills

Reigning MVP Josh Allen proved last year that he doesn’t need an elite wide receiver to bring him team to the brink of the Super Bowl. However, it wouldn’t hurt to add some playmaking talent on the outside. Khalil Shakir is a fine possession receiver and second-round pick Keon Coleman showed some promise as a rookie, but Terry McLaurin is a considerably better player who easily justifies a high contract. The only question is whether the Bills have the financial liberty to make a compelling offer.

Baltimore Ravens

Zay Flowers made the Pro Bowl last year, but Baltimore still could use more help at the wide receiver position. This team boasts one of the most talented rosters in football, but they’ve yet to get over the hump in the playoff race. Terry McLaurin could give Baltimore one of the deepest receiver rooms in football and add even more firepower to what should be a near-unstoppable offense.

Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win games with a run-first offense, but that might not be possible when the team shares a conference with some of the best quarterbacks in football. Second-round pick Ladd McConkey proved to be the real deal as a rookie, but the rest of the depth chart leaves something to be desired. Terry McLaurin perfectly complements McConkey’s skillset and should thrive with a rocket-armed quarterback like Justin Herbert slinging the ball.
