"Wow I never thought about it like that", Titans tackle had his mind blown by simple technique fix from Bill Callahan

Perhaps the most important addition to the Tennessee Titans offense outside of Cam Ward this offseason is their new highly paid left tackle, Dan Moore Jr. The former Pittsburgh Steeler has been pretty boring so far in Training Camp, which sometimes can be the highest compliment you can pay an offensive lineman. A lineman you don't notice is a lineman who isn't a problem, and boy, if Moore is simply not a problem this year, it would be a huge upgrade for this team.

Wow I never thought about it like that' Titans tackle Dan Moore had his mind blown by simple technique fix from Bill Callahan - A to Z Sports

Moore sat down with 104.5 The Zone and Titans Radio host Ramon Foster this week in an interview for the station's YouTube channel. He went into detail on his transition to a new team and to a new, prolific OL coach:

"I would say universally, plays are pretty much the same as just different names of things. I'm just getting a feel for coach (Bill) Callahan. And just getting accustomed to his terminology, the way he likes to coach certain things, how it works. Offensive line play is outside zone. It's outside zone, but it could be ran in numerous different ways, depending on how the coach coaches it, whether he's one of the guys to shuffle and say, square off the ball, whether he's got one guy to run off the ball. So just getting accustomed to Bill and his terminology and just how he wants things to function, no doubt about it."

Foster asked Moore what it's been like learning under Bill Callahan, one of the league's preeminent OL minds.

"He's filled with so much information. First of all, he's a lot more intense, a lot more intense, a lot more hands on, an extreme technician, most definitely. But there's certain little nuances and things that he's teaching me, like with hand fighting and different things. And like, he just said something the other day, two days ago, and I was just like, wow. I sat back and I was like, Wow. I never thought about it that way. I've always tried to defeat a move this way. And he told me, just rotate your thumb. And it's like, dang! Why did I never think of that? You know what I mean? But take your thumb, bro. It's real. It's real things like that. When a guy grabs your wrist, instead of trying to replace it, rotate your thumb down... that was something that just clicked and hit me. Like, wow, bro. I never thought about that. But that's every single day, man. I feel like he's adding to my game. And he's really helped me progress as a player."

Anybody that's had a chance to sit down and watch Bill Callahan go to work with his position group won't find this story surprising at all. He's a master painter, and these giant, powerful men are his brushes he uses to paint works of art on the field with. It's so obvious within a minute of watching him work that you're watching somebody at the top of their field.

In Year 2 in Tennessee, it's time for "Big Coach" and his renovated OL to come up big. His team and their rookie QB are depending on it.
