Xavier Rhodes Declares He’ll Be “Back in Purple Soon”

Is there anything to it?

We’ve talked about how the Minnesota Vikings have been looking at players to come in and play cornerback given the issues they’ve had at the position at the start of training camp. As it turns out, a guy that we’re all familiar with is declaring that he’s going to be “back in purple” soon.

An account on X called @vikingzfanpage was retweeting a Justin Jefferson highlight from training camp and then, much like Randy Orton, former Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes came in out of nowhere with the declaration that he would be back in purple soon. His words, as you can see from the embed above.

Rhodes was originally drafted by the Vikings in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Florida State and developed into one of the top cornerbacks in the league during his time in Minnesota. He made the Pro Bowl three times and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2017. He played seven seasons with the Vikings and was released in March of 2020.

Rhodes then spent the 2021 season with the Indianapolis Colts, where he started 13 games. From there, he signed with the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad during the 2022 season and played in just two games for them before being released in January of 2023. The Dallas Cowboys then signed him and he was elevated from their practice squad for both of the team’s 2023 playoff games that season. He was out of the league completely for the entire 2023 season.

I’m not sure how much fire there is connected to all this smoke, but I’m not sure if Rhodes would just come out and say this sort of thing if there wasn’t a little something there, at the very least. I’m also not sure if he’s discovered the fountain of youth at some point since his time with the Cowboys finished but I suppose there could be worse things than bringing him in and kicking the proverbial tires a bit.
