New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe followed his World Series coming out party on Tuesday night with another moment he won’t forget.

That would be a post-game segment with FOX MLB analyst Derek Jeter, his childhood idol. This time, Volpe wasn’t watching a Jeter playoff highlight, but being interviewed by the icon himself.

It led to some great answers about Volpe‘s approach during his grand slam and a photo between Jeter and Volpe. And in between, it featured Jeter trying to teach the young shortstop a lesson: Don’t take gifts from anyone affiliated with the hated Red Sox as Boston legend David Ortiz gifted him his “player of the game” T-shirt.

Here’s how the interaction went down:

Host Kevin Burkhardt: “You deserve it (a photo) after a night like this. Let’s go take it.”

David Ortiz, planting the T-shirt on Volpe’s shoulder: “You my dawg.”

Jeter: “No, no, no. Don‘t take that, man. Don’t take that.”

Volpe then took the photo with Jeter, the first by a FOX staffer and the second one by Ortiz himself. It also looked like Volpe got a first look at the front of the T-shirt as he was walked away — a big photo of Ortiz in a Red Sox uniform with “My Dawg” at the bottom awaited him.

As one fan wrote in the comments on FOX’s X account, “Jeter staying true to the pinstripes.”

The 23-year-old‘s grand slam in the bottom of the third inning gave the Yankees life and put the Yankees ahead for good during their 11-4 victory that staved off elimination against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It came off Daniel Hudson and scored, Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm and Giancarlo Stanton and followed Volpe’s bad baserunning in the second inning. On that play, Austin Wells rocketed a double to center field that Volpe, who was on second base, got a bad read on, so he only made it to third. Luckily, Alex Verdugo scored him on a groundout to first before the inning closed.

The star of Game 4, Volpe went 2 for 3 with three runs, four RBIs and two stolen bases, while batting in the seventh spot of the order.

The Yankees will play Game 5, again with their playoff lives on the line, on Wednesday. Ace Gerrit Cole faces the Dodgers’ Jack Flaherty.
