The New York Yankees are always being linked to moves. They are one of the teams in baseball who is always an option to pull off a trade or free agency signing.
After coming up just short in the World Series last season, the Yankees went through a rollercoaster of an offseason.
Juan Soto leaving town was a tough blow. Seeing him join the crosstown rival New York Mets made things even more difficult. However, New York went out and made quite a few moves to help replace him.
Now, the question becomes, what future moves could the Yankees consider pursuing?
One potential option that has been suggested would be to pull off a trade with the Mets.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report recently suggested that the two New York teams could be a match in a potential Brett Baty trade.
Rymer believes that Baty could be a potential trade candidate following the Mets' new deal with Pete Alonso.
"Baty was penciled in to start for the Mets not too long ago, but the club's deal with Pete Alonso put the kibosh on that," Rymer wrote. "Baty now figures to start 2025 in the minors, which is too bad given his profile. He was regarded as an elite prospect as recently as 2023, and he's still only 25."
After sharing that take, Rymer suggested that the Yankees could be a potential suitor if Baty is made available.
During the 2024 season at the Major League level, Baty played in just 50 games. He hit four home runs to go along with 16 RBI while slashing .229/.306/.327.
In the minor leagues in 2024, Baty played in 62 games, batting .252/.349/.504 to go along with 16 home runs and 45 RBI.
Baty has major potential for the future and New York could keep an eye on him as a potential trade target.
